To anyone who has ever had a dream and decided not to pursue it because they were too afraid—of rejection or succeeding—than I promise you that you’ve cheated yourself more than you know. Life is short and every so often we are reminded of that, whether through death, conversations, watching the world around you or even music. Those who know me and my team should understand that we all live life to the fullest. Not one moment should be taken for granted, not one experience should be under appreciated and not one goal should go un-pursued.

This poetry tour is the manifestation of a series of goals that I pursued beginning with a series of open mics and what I believe is just a vivid imagination always at work. I never have to say a poem, never step on a stage, but I still get my mission across every night we do a show. The options out here are endless but happiness is the ultimate goal.

As I soar 15,000 feet about New York, Marcus & Devin alongside, glaring out the window, catching the bright lights of the city in the night, happiness is an understatement. Three days, three shows, three states, five cities, 4 flights, 2 bus rides, one $40 cab ride, a train ride, and more new facebook friends that I can count. I (we’re) making a statement, and living out our dreams. I (we) haven’t made it because there is still a lot more to accomplish but on this day I’m satisfied in knowing that I can say that I have accomplished… and will continue to live life to the fullest.

Survinging Long Distance Relationships

So your boo is away at college and you’re still in the city...

Parlé breaks down the struggle that is the long distance relationship and helps you keep the relationship going

There is a lot to concentrate on when you are away at school, at the top of that list hopefully is the school work. Between papers, nightly reading assignments, work study, clubs, and activities, parties and exams, it becomes pretty hard to concentrate on anything else. Therefore, if you are in a long distance relationship with someone the most important thing for them to understand is that you are busy and there is no way all of your focus can be on them. Long distance relationships brought on by college are all about compromise so if your partner understands that, one of the hurdles is out of the way. However in the same breath of compromise, as the student you must also know your partner and what type of person they are. If you were in one of those relationships where you talked everyday, saw each other everyday or constantly went out you can’t expect them to be able to just stop interacting with you cold turkey. You need to somehow ease them into the distance but also keep them close. Text often. Make time for them before you go to bed and send emails. Just because you can’t devote as much time to your partner doesn’t mean you can’t make the extra effort.

It’s also important to make sure you make your conversations meaningful. You wont always get a chance to talk but when you do give them your full attention. Just because you are far away in miles doesn’t mean you can’t be completely there. Oftentimes people feel that because someone isn’t right there with them on campus they can’t relate or because they never lived on a campus they can’t understand certain things. That’s not true. It’s your job to draw your partner into your everyday experiences. Make them feel what you have to go through by explaining it and letting them feel closer to your struggles. In return they will do the same with their problems. Just because you aren’t in the same location doesn’t mean you’ve lost all your common interests. Your partner usually knows how you handle things and they may even be able to give advice on how to make things easier. As long as your conversations remain deep and you continue to share things on an intense level, you’ll always have that connection and a few months should be nothing to overcome.

The biggest concern with a long distance relationship is always the intimacy or lack thereof. You know your partner and whether they can wait and that’s when you have to be honest with yourself first and foremost...

Kevin Benoit

Kevin has been working as a journalist and student of the entertainment industry since he was 15 years old. Beginning with a student run high school publication, he made connections and developed a love for writing.

Now, 21 years old, and a college graduate, Kevin is still on a mission to bring something amazing to the world. Through Parlé Magazine, the Parlé With Us Poetry Tour and Parlé Radio, Kevin is able to reach audiences from many different angles. He hopes to inspire young adults to take on entrepreneurship, realize the importance of writing and other means of communication and the need for a thorough education.

THE WRITERS

Kenny Smith
Kenny Smith is a 21-year-old senior at St. Johns University with a passion for music and writing. As a Journalism Major, he hopes to pursue a career combining the two fields following graduation. A native of Washington D.C., Kenny is looking to remain in New York City after school to take advantage of any opportunity. A lover of Hip-Hop, his favorite artist (alive) is Styles P and his favorite group is Bone Thugs N Harmony.

Alejandro (Alex) Bracetti
As a conformist of hip-hop, I write intriguing articles most Hip-Hop journalists would be petrified of tackling. I’ll touch on any topic, any artist; it is what it is. What most readers and viewers neglect, I bring fourth and question. There won’t be any sugarcoating here because I present it clearer than a Common verse. The art of urban Journalism is evolving and best believe the Parlé team is bringing that FIREEEEEEEEEEE!

Ms. Boogie/Joncier Rieneker
Ms. Boogie is an author and comedienne. Currently, she is the host of the online radio show, ‘The Rundown,’ at www.llegamosradio.wordpress.com. You can listen to her, every Saturday from 8:30 - 10:30 pm. In the midst of writing for Parlé, she is working on her first novel. Eboyné Jackson
Eboyné Jackson is a lifestyle journalist on the rise, whose immense passion for fashion, music, and pop culture, has led her to her destiny. Her writing credits include R&B singer/songwriter, Ne-yo, hit producers, the Heavy Weights, and former stylist to the stars, Elif NY, just to name a few. Eboyné's writing flair is trend setting, and aims to make the reader feel luxurious. When she's not busy traveling to meet fashion designers, musicians, and PR personnel in the pursuit of her next 'big story,' she can be found designing clothing for an up-and-coming clothing line, and scripting the treatment for her ready to launch, public access television show. Eboyné is a journalist on the move, always ready and willing to listen to a fabulous story, so be on the look out!

Andrew Cosentino
Based on Long Island, Andrew Cosentino is both accomplished musician and writer, concentrating mainly on music, fashion, sports critique. A member of the Tri-M music society he has studied music composition under Dr. Daniel Deutche and is under consideration for a Electronic Composition fellowship at Hofstra University. In addition to his music and writing, Andrew referees youth soccer games on weekends.

Ashley Hoover
I was born in New Jersey on November 11, so my standpoint as a Scorpio fits perfectly with my personality, I say. Chosen as one of God’s most luckiest children, I am blessed to have a family who I adore and compare to no other because they have given me a reason to smile at the beautiful side of life. Although the transformation into a young woman was a task in itself, I am fortunate to have made it to this point in my life. As a college student, I have learned more than I ever expected to outside of term papers and tests, my discoveries of friendship and love. I am most happy with the relationships I have chosen for they have taught me both patience and understanding. Like anyone else, I have also observed hardships and the hardest battle was the passing of my father, his spiritual being is my motivation to go on. I believe that life's experiences will forever be reminiscent to me because they are God's set plans, all things happen for a reason, and I am a true believer of that. Although I have much more to encounter in my days to come, with confidence, I must say that I am proud of the discoveries I've made thus far. Who I truly am has arrived just in time.

Samora Suber
Samora Suber is a recent theatre graduate from Florida State University, where she began to focus on writing for television. With many screenplays, television pilots and blogs under her belt, Samora is excited to begin a new experience in writing for Parlé Magazine.

Regina Rivers
Regina Rivers hails from the Capital District of New York and has recently embraced journalism and freelance writing. Ms. Rivers is a current full-time student of SUNY New Paltz studying Sociology, Journalism, and Black Studies. Her experience includes writing for her campus publications (The Oracle Newspaper and Fahari-Libertad magazine) and the online magazine Diva Dymes. Though writing is one of her passions, Ms. Rivers later plans on expanding her portfolio through the use of radio journalism and short films.

Nicole Perrino
A marine brat, Nic Perrino has lived everywhere from California to New York, but has always showed love to the borough that raised her, Queens. At 22 years old, Perrino is a full-time student and mother alongside being a writer. An odd mix of a hip hop writer and criminal justice student, everyday Nic gets closer to finding her niche, but is loving every minute of it.

Janice Williams-Thomas
Born in North Jersey, and raised in both NY and the Garden State, Janice Williams-Thomas moved back and forth because of her mothers job as a registered nurse. Growing up, she saw the epitome of hard work on my mother’s face and in my mother’s heart and found the spirit to believe in herself and be the best she could. It was the struggles she faced that led to a path in writing at just the young age of 12, beginning with small poems, graduating to short stories and now what she is determined to dominate journalism. "I have this passion for a piece of paper and a pen and it never sleeps, it only dreams."

THE PHOTOGRAPHERS

Shomari Green
Born in 1973, Shomari began composing music at the age of thirteen. His mother, Ghanniyya Green, is an accomplished jazz vocalist. His own company, Gain-Green Productionz, is currently in development for other revenue streams, licensing music, and writing custom music for lounges. Shomari continues to work on his production while he also masters his natural talent for photography. He’s been taking pictures for ParlÈ for months capturing shots of the stars like only he can.

Will J. Gomez
My full name is Wilmen J. Gomez. I’m Dominican, live in the Bronx and love photography. Currently I’m looking to gain as much experience as I can. In my future I’d like to open my own studio and sell my own book. But for right now I wouldn’t mind working for some of the photography masters. What sparked my interest in photography was seeing a picture of a pregnant Demi Moore photographed by Annie Leibovitz back in 1991. Ever since then I have had a fascination with this art.

THE DESIGNERS

Louis Pazos
My name is Louis and I am a Graphic Design artist. I believe that I have been everywhere that I needed to be, maybe not at the right time but at a time when someone needed me the most. My fascination with art, pictures, entertainment, and fashion, along with my innate ability to sense when/what people need, has made me realize that I should be part of an organization that will help me with my future goals. For Parlé, I will produce the best, aid in the growth of the company, and help to catch everybody’s attention with my unique, fresh new KICKASS designs.

Krista Balboni
Krista Balboni is a recent graduate of Fordham University, with a degree in Communications and Art. She is a graphic designer living in Massachusetts. Krista's work can be viewed at www.kristabalboni.com

Gigi Polo
Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Gigi moved to New York to finish her BFA in Communication Design from which she graduated in 2005. She has worked as an Art Director and freelancer, and launched her design studio- Myellow Boots Studio-in 2007, providing design services to the non-profit industry and small businesses. Her design skills are always combined with fine arts, photography and film because of her eagerness to treasure emotion and tell stories.

Sally Rinehart
Sally Rinehart, a native New Yorker, is a rising senior at Harvard College. She will earn her BA in studio art this June, but her professional goals lie in graphic design. She has spent the past few years developing her design portfolio and plans to enroll in an MFA graphic design program after graduating from Harvard. THE FAMILY

Kamal Muhammed
Kamal, represents 1/3 of Parlé Radio. He brings that laugh out loud atmosphere to the show ammong other things. College student at Brooklyn College, aspiring to become a business "guru," Kamal's carefree spirit shines to his audience on Parlé Radio. His motivation comes from the lives of those living in luxury. Never engulfed by material items, Kamal feels freedom is being able to do whatever you want, whenever you want, whether you want to get away from the life you live or you want wine and dine the ones you love, the option should always be there.
